Finnomia vs Mint

Looking for the Mint experience in Canada?

Mint closed in March 2024 and Credit Karma did not replace its budgeting tools. Finnomia brings connected accounts, transaction categorization, budgets, bills and net worth into a Canadian-built app—without ads or credit-product offers.

Finnomia is a strong fit for former Canadian Mint users who want a connected financial dashboard. It is not the right replacement if your priority is free access or credit-score monitoring.

Credit card required. Cancel before the 14-day trial ends to avoid a charge. Plans are billed in Canadian dollars; taxes extra.

What Finnomia carries forward from Mint

A connected view of everyday money

Mint was useful because it reduced the work required to understand where money was going. Finnomia takes the same connected-dashboard approach: link accounts using read-only connections, review imported transactions, split them across categories when needed, correct categories with rules and see the effect on budgets and cash flow. Unused budget amounts can roll forward, and alerts cover bills, budgets, deposits and disconnected accounts.

Budgets that follow real spending

Finnomia’s budgets are based on categories and actual transactions. It is a spending-and-tracking approach rather than an envelope system that requires every available dollar to be assigned in advance.

More context for Canadian accounts

Advanced and Family plans combine net worth and investment tracking with Canadian registered-account contribution-room tools. Finnomia also includes debt payoff planning and retirement projections that account for CPP and OAS.

What Finnomia does differently

Finnomia is subscription-funded, Canadian-owned and priced in Canadian dollars. It does not sell customer data to advertisers or brokers, and bank connections are read-only. Five percent of Finnomia’s profits support Canadian charities working in financial and economic literacy.

Canadian connectivity is a product priority

Finnomia combines Plaid with Flinks, a provider with deep Canadian financial-data expertise and relationships with Canadian institutions. Flinks gives us a connection option built around Canadian banking alongside Plaid’s broader network.

Support varies by institution and account type. Check our connection status page and try your accounts during the trial. Manual accounts and CSV imports are available on every plan.

More control over everyday money and the longer-term plan

Review transactions, correct categories, split purchases and create rules that reduce repeat work. On Family, you can assign transaction reviews to household members and keep individual transaction details private while sharing balances and spending totals.

Advanced and Family bring investments, net worth, debt payoff and cash-flow forecasts together with Canadian retirement planning. Explore CPP and OAS timing, future contributions and retirement income in today’s or future dollars. These are planning estimates, not guaranteed outcomes.

Why Canadians choose Finnomia

Built for Canadian financial life

  • Canadian institutions

Flinks adds Canadian financial-data expertise to our Plaid connectivity, giving us another route to support Canadian institutions and resolve connection issues. Check your institution and account type on our connection status page.

  • Canadian accounts

Track TFSA, RRSP, FHSA and RESP contribution room alongside investments and net worth on Advanced and Family.

  • Canadian retirement

Model retirement income and compare CPP and OAS claiming assumptions as part of a broader drawdown plan.

  • Canadian-dollar pricing

Know what your subscription costs without converting a US-dollar list price or paying a foreign-currency card fee.

  • Household finances without shared passwords

The Family plan supports up to five members with shared household budgets and a combined household view.

  • A Canadian social purpose

Five percent of Finnomia’s profits support Canadian charities advancing financial and economic literacy.
