What’s new in open beta (August 2026)

Two weeks into open beta, we shipped a Canadian Retirement Planner, household sharing, TFSA contribution room, receipts, and referrals — plus a Help Center. Here’s what went live since August 1.

We opened Finnomia to everyone on August 1. The two weeks since have been some of our favourite so far: real people in the product, real questions in the inbox, and a clear list of what to build next.

This is a recap of what went live in that window. If you have been away since signup, there is quite a bit waiting for you.

Every plan still includes a 30-day free trial. You can cancel anytime.

A Retirement Planner that speaks Canadian

Most retirement tools assume a 401(k) and a Social Security statement. Ours starts with the systems you actually use.

The new Retirement Planner can:

  • Estimate CPP and OAS, including the effect of waiting until 70
  • Show an RRSP → RRIF conversion using CRA factors
  • Walk through a drawdown sequence, including RRIF minimums
  • Compare claim ages side by side
  • Save up to ten scenarios so you can try a few “what ifs”

Think of it as a sandbox for the big questions — when to claim, how a RRIF might look, whether waiting is worth it — not a substitute for Service Canada, the CRA, or an advisor. If you are about to make a real decision, please double-check the numbers there.

This first version does not yet cover GIS, a full provincial tax engine, or planning as a couple. We know those matter. They are on the list.

Built for households, not just individuals

A lot of you manage money with a partner. Family and Founder plans can now invite household members, share a household budget, and flip between a household view and a personal one.

You also decide who can connect accounts, categorize transactions, and edit budgets, so sharing does not have to mean everyone can change everything.

If you are flying solo, nothing changes. Household tools are there when you need them.

TFSA room, the way CRA thinks about it

Balances are useful. Remaining room is what you actually need in contribution season.

You can now see:

  • The 2026 CRA TFSA limit of $7,000
  • Year-to-date contributions
  • Withdrawals
  • Remaining room at the person level, rather than tucked inside a single account

If you hold both Canadian and US accounts, you can also view them as CAD, USD, or Combined. Combined is a simple side-by-side total — we do not apply an exchange rate, because we would rather show you both currencies honestly than guess at FX.

Receipts, attached where they belong

You can attach a photo or a PDF to a transaction — JPEG, PNG, WebP, or PDF, up to five files of 10 MB each.

It is a home for the receipt, not a scanner that reads the merchant for you. If you have been keeping those files in a folder beside the app, they can live on the transaction now.

Invite someone you trust

Settings → Referrals is ready.

Your friend still gets the 30-day trial, then 25% off their first paid invoice (annual plans stretch that discount further). When they become a paying subscriber, you get one free month of your plan as a thank-you.

Help when you need it — and a little about us

Open beta deserved a real Help Center, so we built one. We will keep adding guides as your questions come in.

This blog is new, too. We will use it for product updates like this one, so you do not have to hunt through release notes.

We also wrote down why Finnomia exists: to improve financial and economic literacy in Canada, with 5% of profits going to charity in support of that. You can read the full note on Social Purpose.

A few quieter improvements

Not every change is a new screen. A few things should simply feel more trustworthy:

  • Fewer duplicate pending charges (TD Visa was a common one)
  • Refunds now reduce spending in Trends, instead of making a category look bigger than it was
  • Transfers and credit-card payments no longer show up as income on the dashboard

If a number felt off in your first week, it may already be in a better place. If it still looks wrong, we want to hear about it.

Still in beta — and still listening

Native iOS and Android apps are in internal testing. For now, the full experience is on the web. We will post here when there is a public TestFlight or Play link you can actually use.

Open beta means we are still sanding the edges. If something is confusing, missing, or broken, write us at support@finnomia.ca or start from the Help Center. Those notes are how we decide what to build next.

Come take a look

Create an account and give it a spin — 30 days, no fuss. We are in Vancouver, building for Canadian banks, CAD, TFSAs, and RRSPs, and we would genuinely love to know what you think.
