Finnomia September Update: Flinks Is Live, a New Homepage and Better Everyday Tracking
Flinks is now live in Finnomia alongside Plaid, giving us another way to connect supported Canadian financial accounts.
We’ve also substantially overhauled Finnomia.ca and made improvements across bill tracking, loan and mortgage payments, receipt browsing, transfer matching and several everyday transaction workflows.
Many of these changes came directly from people using Finnomia and explaining where something could work better.
Flinks is now available alongside Plaid
Bank connectivity is one of the foundations of a personal finance app.
It can also be one of the most difficult parts to get right.
Canadian financial institutions use different authentication methods, support different account types and can behave differently depending on the financial-data provider being used.
Finnomia now uses Flinks alongside Plaid to connect supported Canadian financial accounts.
Having another provider gives us more options across institutions and account types, including situations where a connection is difficult or unreliable through one provider.
It does not mean every financial institution or account type will suddenly work perfectly. Bank connectivity is something we will continue improving as institutions change their systems and as we learn more from real-world connections.
If you’ve had trouble linking an account to Finnomia, try connecting it again. If the problem continues, contact support@finnomia.ca with the institution, account type and where the connection stopped.
Those details help us investigate the right part of the process.
Better links between bills and payments
Knowing that a bill is coming is useful. Being able to follow it through to the transaction that actually paid it is better.
We’ve improved the connection between bills and their payment transactions, along with bill-payment history.
The practical goal is simple: make it easier to answer two questions.
Has this bill been paid?
And which transaction paid it?
A recurring bill and a bank transaction are really two views of the same household activity. Connecting them more clearly makes reviewing your finances easier without forcing you to reconstruct the payment history yourself.
Improved handling for loan and mortgage payments
Loan and mortgage payments contain two very different things: principal that reduces what you owe and interest paid to the lender.
Finnomia now handles that distinction more clearly, making it easier to understand how a payment relates to the debt you’re tracking.
We’ve also improved how principal payments can be reflected in manual loan balances.
The aim is to make debt tracking work naturally alongside everyday budgeting. You should be able to see the payment leaving your account while also understanding what that payment did to the balance of your debt.
A receipts gallery and filtering
Finnomia already allows receipts and supporting documents to be attached directly to transactions.
Those attachments are much more useful when you can easily find them again.
Receipts now have their own gallery and filtering, giving you a more direct way to browse transactions with supporting documents.
Whether you’re checking a purchase, looking for proof of payment or trying to find a document you attached months ago, you no longer need to rely entirely on remembering the original transaction.
Finnomia currently supports JPEG, PNG, WebP and PDF receipt attachments on the web.
Better transfer matching and transaction handling
Transfers between your own accounts should not look like new spending or new income.
We’ve continued improving transfer matching so Finnomia can more clearly recognize money moving within your finances.
We’ve also addressed issues involving split transactions and transaction editing, along with fixes for Google sign-in, dashboard loading and demo access.
These aren't necessarily the features someone notices on a marketing page, but they have a big effect on whether the product feels dependable when you're actually using it.
A completely overhauled Finnomia.ca
The Finnomia homepage has had a substantial redesign.
The previous site did not show enough of the actual product. For a personal finance platform, that is a problem. People should be able to get a good sense of what they are considering before creating an account or connecting financial information.
The redesigned homepage includes substantially more screenshots from the real Finnomia app.
You can get a closer look at the fully customizable dashboard, budgeting tools, debt-planning features and other parts of the product before signing up.
The site also provides much clearer explanations of our approach to privacy, security and Canadian bank connectivity.
Choosing a personal finance platform involves a significant amount of trust. The website should help you understand both what the product can do and the company you are considering trusting with your financial information.
The new design gives those questions much more room.
You can explore it at finnomia.ca.
Mobile development continues
The Finnomia iOS and Android apps remain in private beta.
Testing and polish are continuing as we work toward broader availability by the end of September. That remains a target rather than a firm release date, and we’ll make a separate announcement when the apps are ready.
The Finnomia web app remains fully available in the meantime.
More Canadian financial tools and resources
Finnomia is intended to be more than the application itself.
Our free calculators and growing library of Canadian personal-finance guides are available to everyone, including people who don’t use Finnomia.
The resource library covers topics including budgeting, cash flow, registered accounts, debt, saving, retirement and other parts of managing money in Canada.
Improving financial and economic literacy in Canada is part of what we want Finnomia to contribute alongside the software.
Thank you for helping improve Finnomia
Some improvements begin with a big product idea.
Others begin with someone saying that a bill didn't behave the way they expected, a transaction was difficult to edit, a receipt was hard to find or their bank wouldn't connect.
Both matter.
Thank you to everyone who has tried Finnomia, reported a problem or taken the time to explain what would make the product more useful.
That feedback continues to shape what we build.
